His Holiness the Dalai Lama has canceled a scheduled lecture at University of California-Los Angeles due to “sore throat”.
“His Holiness the Dalai Lama will now be arriving in Long Beach, CA, on May 2nd, 2011 instead of the earlier scheduled time. This is on account of a slight indisposition due to a sore throat, for which the physicians have advised him to rest before taking the long plane journey from Tokyo. The doctors have said the rest was essential for His Holiness to recover faster from the sore throat,”a statement by Lobsang Nyandak Zayul, the Tibetan leader’s representative to the North Americas said.
We seek the understanding and indulgence of the organizers and participants of the events on May 1st and May 2nd (His Holiness will not be able to participate in events scheduled for May 2nd at UCLA) and regret the inconvenience this has caused to all concerned, the statement further said.
UCLA said in a statement Sunday that the Tibetan leader, Tenzin Gyatso, was unable to travel due to illness and his sold-out lecture “What is True Wisdom?”, scheduled for Monday morning, was canceled.
An afternoon symposium on Buddhism and neuroscience will take place without his participation with other scholars.
UCLA offers the largest Buddhist studies program in the Western world. The Dalai Lama recently approved the creation of a fund in his name to advance the study of Tibetan Buddhism at UCLA.
